BASEBALL OVER NEWBURY 17-1

NEW LONDON, CT-- Mitchell College (12-6) defeated Newbury College (0-6) Thursday afternoon by the score of 17-1. The win was the Pequots’ third in a row.

Mitchell’s offense was led by senior first baseman Sal Messina (Wolcott HS/Prospect, CT) who went 2-for-5 with 3 RBI’s. Mitchell took advantage of 14 free passes given up by Nighthawk pitching. Of those 14 walks, eight would come around and score. Senior Dan Lanoue (Cranston HS/Cranston, RI) and junior Shawn Guiney (New London HS/New London, CT) each walked four times. Junior lefty Ryan Marshall (Waterford HS/Waterford, CT) pitched five solid innings striking out seven Newbury hitters to pick up his first win on the season (1-2).

Junior pitcher Evan Hudson (Sunapee HS/Sunapee, NH) went 2-for-4 for the Nighthawks.

Mitchell’s next games will be on Saturday April 21st in a doubleheader at John Jay with the first game starting at 12 noon. Newbury travels to Salem State College on Friday April 20th for a 3:00 PM start time.
