Big Things Are Expected in 2009 for Mitchell Baseball

NEW LONDON, CONN. - The Mitchell College baseball team hopes to be very competitive this season, and they will be working towards qualifying for both the CUNY (City Universities of New York) and the newly-formed NECC (New England Collegiate Conference)post-season tournaments.

The team has a strong nucleus of upperclassmen that provide the leadership and experience needed to help the program grow and be successful.  A strong recruiting class and some talented transfers will make a positive impact immediately.

The Mariners will be led by three returning CUNY All-Conference players Jeremy Chapman (Oakdale, Conn.), Jeff Perillo (Newington, Conn.), and Andy Langlais (Ledyard, Conn.).  Chapman, a pitcher, was named CUNY Pitcher of the Year in 2008, and Perillo, a shortstop, was tabbed as the CUNY Rookie of the Year.  The team will also look to centerfielder Clayton Boegler (Somerset, Mass.) and second baseman John McGarry (Waterford, Conn.) for leadership.

Other pitchers in the rotation will include senior Adam Deltgen (Norwich, Conn.), junior Matt Hagen (Boulder, Colo.), junior Matt Osgood (Brookfield, Conn.), and sophomore Cody Faddis (Muskogee, Okla.).

The newcomers in 2009 will look to make an immediate impact, and they include University of New Haven transfer Matt Radke (catcher), outfielder Jimmy Gleason, and infielder Tom Derosier.
