ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College junior Garet Griffin was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the sport of baseball, as announced by the conference on Monday.
Griffin batted .700 with two doubles, a homer, two RBI and six runs scored last week as Mitchell went 3-0 in league play. He had multiple hits in every game, beginning with a three-hit performance against Newbury that included a pair of doubles. He then had two hits in each game of a doubleheader sweep of Becker, and in the opener he hit his team-leading third home run of the season. Griffin slugged 1.200 for the week and had an on-base percentage of .727.
Griffin, who received the honor for the third time this season (Feb. 27, March 13), has played in 20 games and is hitting a team-high .485 with 22 RBI and 22 runs scored. His three home runs are tied for the most in the NECC, and he also ranks second in the conference in batting average, runs and RBI.
Mitchell (15-6 overall, 5-1 NECC) has won seven straight games and will next play at Amherst College on Wednesday, April 5 at 3:30 p.m.
