ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College senior Kyle Hartenstein was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the sport of baseball, as announced by the league on Monday morning.
Hartenstein batted a team-high .522 last week as the Mariners went 5-0 to close out their annual Florida trip. He had multiple hits in all five games, including three hits against both Heidelberg and Husson. He scored a run in all five games and totaled nine for the week. He also finished with three stolen bases and two RBI. In the field, Hartenstein was flawless in 25 chances with 14 putouts.
Hartenstein is the second Mitchell player to be recognized by the NECC this season, joining classmate Bryton Ferris. It also marked the first time this season and the fifth time in his career that the veteran second baseman has earned player of the week honors.
In nine games this season Hartenstein is batting .378 with six RBI and a team-high 14 runs scored. He has hit safely in his last six games and has yet to make an error in the field.
Mitchell (8-1 overall) will next play at Johnson & Wales University on Saturday, March 17 at 1 p.m.
