Baseball Comes Up Short at St. Joseph's

STANDISH, Maine - The Mitchell College baseball team dropped a 4-2 final at St. Joseph's College on Saturday afternoon at Mahaney Diamond.

The Mariners fell behind 3-0 in the second inning and failed to make up the difference. Mitchell cut the deficit to one with two runs in the sixth inning, the first run scoring on a triple by Garet Griffin and the second on a single by James Rangel. After stranding a runner on third base in the top of the seventh, the Mariners gave up another run in the home half to fall behind 4-2. The Monks then kept the Mitchell bats quiet in the eighth and ninth frames to claim the victory.

Kyle Hartenstein saw his school record hitting streak come to an end at 23 games. It marked only the fourth game this season that he's been held without a hit.

Mitchell starter Bryton Ferris allowed three runs and struck out two in 3.0 innings of work. Jakari Pellegrini gave up only one hit over 3.0 scoreless innings of relief and fanned four, as did Bryce Bedard over the final 2.0 innings.

Mitchell (21-6 overall) will next play at Coast Guard Academy on Sunday, April 22 at noon.
