ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College senior Eddie Santiago was named New England Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week for the sport of baseball, as announced by the league on Monday morning.
Santiago went 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA in NECC action last week to help Mitchell to a 5-1 record. He tossed a complete-game shutout at Lesley University and struck out five while scattering six hits. Five days later he took the ball against Elms College and spun another gem, striking out seven while yielding one run on three hits over 6.0 innings. The win helped the Mariners clinch at least a share of first place in the league standings.
Santiago earned pitcher of the week honors for the first time this season and third time in his career. In nine starts this season he owns a 5-2 record with a 2.89 ERA, and his 48 strikeouts rank seventh in the league.
Mitchell (26-8 overall, 14-3 NECC) will wrap up the regular season with a game at Becker College on Tuesday, May 1 at 4 p.m.
