Mitchell Men Cruise to Victory Over Lesley During Pink Out Game
NEW LONDON, CONN. - The Mariners cruised to a 78-52 win over Lesley University on Saturday afternoon during a "Pink Out" event held at Mitchell College. Mitchell was led by Eric Murray (Bridgeport, Conn.) with 25 points and 11 rebounds in the win.
A made free throw by Murray put Mitchell up by seven points at the 9:09 mark in the first half. The Mariners then went on an 18-5 run and took a 35-17 lead into the locker room at the half. In the second half, the home team would lead by as many as 26 points en route to their seventh win overall and third in the NECC.
Ten different players scored for the Mariners in the lop-sided victory. Mike DePaolo (Asbury, N.J.) chipped in with 11 points, while Matt Bindner (Milford, Conn.) just missed double digit scoring with nine points. Mitchell was able to hold Lesley to 32% shooting percentage from the field, and their pressuring defense caused 17 turnovers.
Lesley was led by sophomore guard Jonathan Cruz (Haverhill, Mass.) who scored 22 points in the loss.
The win improves Mitchell's record to 7-8 overall and 3-3 in the NECC. The Mariners are back in action on Thursday, January 29th when they travel to Elms College.
