Mitchell Wins and Places Third at Eastern Connecticut Tip-Off Tournament

 WILLIMANTIC, CONN. - Mitchell beat New England College at the Eastern Connecticut Tip-Off Tournament,88-68, in the consolation game played on Saturday afternoon.  The Mariners were paced by Eric Murray (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Mike DePaolo (Asbury, N.J.) who combined for 49 points in the win.  Murray also pulled down six rebounds and went a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line.  Sophomore Jenel Russell (East Hampton, N.Y.) had another strong performance in the post scoring 14 points and grabbing eight rebounds.

The Pilgrims were led by Shane Hennessey (Plymouth, England) who put up 23 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.  Jamie Davies (Plymouth, England) also scored in double-digits with 22 points.  The defensive effort by Mitchell was too much for New England College and led to 24 turnovers.

The Mariners shot the ball well on the afternoon shooting 53% from the field and 91.7% from the free throw line.  Mitchell was in control of the game from beginning to end, leading by 23 at the half and by as many as 27 in the second half. 

Mitchell improves to 1-2 on the season and will play again at Albertus Magnus on December 2 at 7pm.  With the win, the Mariners took a third place finish in the Tip-Off Tournament.
