Weston, Mass. – Mitchell College fell in their season-opener to host Regis College 78-62 in a non-conference game played on Tuesday evening. The Mariners were led by Matt Bindner (Milford, Conn.) who scored 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Eric Murray (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored 13 points and had seven rebounds as he played all 40 minutes for the visitors.
The game was close in the early minutes until Regis pulled away midway through the first half with a 12-0 run. The Pride were led by Phil Alibrandi (York, ME) who scored a game-high 20 points and shot 11-13 from the free throw line. Regis out-shot the Mariners at the free throw line 39-11 and took advantage by connecting on 71.8% as a team. Derrick Neal (Boston, Mass.) contributed to the victory with an overall strong performance of 13 points, five assists, and three steals.
Mitchell will look to bounce back at the Eastern Connecticut State University Tip-Off Tournament this coming weekend. They face Springfield College in the opening round on Friday, November 21, 2008.
