Ford Tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week for MBB
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College sophomore Joshua Ford was named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Rookie of the Week for the sport of men's basketball, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
Ford finished with 18 points on 8-for-12 shooting and scored the game-winning basket in Mitchell's 59-57 victory over Regis College last week. With only 3.7 seconds remaining in regulation, the Mariners inbounded the ball and found Ford cutting to the basket for a buzzer-beating lay-up. He also added a team-high seven rebounds in 26 minutes of action.
Ford has made a big impact for the Mariners in his debut season, playing in all nine games while making five starts. The 6-4 forward is the second leading scorer on the team at 12.9 points per contest, and he leads the conference in both rebounding (11.3 per game) and blocks (13). His shooting percentage (.533) also ranks among the NECC's best and is tops among the league's rookies.
Mitchell (4-5 overall, 2-1 NECC) will next host Southern Vermont College on Thursday, January 12 at 1 p.m.
