NEW LONDON, Conn. – Connecticut College shot a blistering 69 percent in the first half en route to a 95-75 victory at Mitchell College on Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's basketball action at the Yarnall Athletic Center.
Zuri Pavlin led all scorers with 19 points and added a game-high 11 rebounds and six assists as the Camels (7-1 overall) won their fourth straight game. Tyler Rowe added 16 points and four assists while Lee Messier chipped in with 14 points off the bench. Daniel Janel rounded out the double-digit scorers for Conn with 12 points.
Alan Morgan netted a season-high 18 points and handed out seven assists in only 24 minutes for the Mariners (0-6 overall). Hasani Williams finished with a season-high 17 points to go with seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks, and Marvin Baker came off the bench to contribute eight points and nine boards.
A layup by Brayvon Young with 12:35 to play in the first half gave Mitchell its largest lead at 20-14. Conn responded with three-pointers on its next three trips down the floor courtesy of Messier, Isaiah Robinson and Rowe to pull in front, the beginning of an 18-0 run over a 3:55 stretch. Messier drilled a pair of treys during the spurt, which ended with a layup by Colin Pascoe that put the Camels ahead 32-20.
David Labossiere hit a three inside the final minute of the half to give Conn a 58-39 lead at the break. Messier scored 12 in the stanza and connected on his first three attempts from beyond the arc. Rowe and Janel each had 10 points as the Camels shot 22-for-32 from the floor and 7-for-14 from deep.
Conn led by as many as 30 points in the second half as both teams went deep into their benches. The Camels shot 56 percent for the game and held a 47-41 advantage on the glass.
Mitchell will next host the University of Maine at Fort Kent on Wednesday, December 14 at 6 p.m. Conn returns to action on December 30 against UMass Dartmouth at the Springfield College Tournament.
