ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College freshman Hasani Williams was named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the sport of men's basketball, as announced by the league on Monday morning.
Williams averaged 11.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game last week as the Mariners went 2-1 in league action. He finished with four points and five rebounds at Regis College to help Mitchell to its first win of the season. He then recorded season highs of 20 points and 14 rebounds in a win over Wheelock College, and wrapped up the week with 11 points, four rebounds and two steals in a loss to Becker College. Williams shot 70 percent from the field for the week and also averaged 1.7 steals per contest.
It marked the second time this season that Williams has been tabbed the conference's rookie of the week (Jan. 9). The 6-4 forward has started and played in all 15 games this season. He currently ranks fifth on the team in scoring at 9.7 points per game and second in rebounds at 6.9 per contest.
Mitchell (2-13 overall, 2-5 NECC) will next play at Newbury College on Tuesday, January 24 at 7 p.m.
