Men's Lacrosse
Ledvina, Goldberg and Dineen Score in Loss to UMass Dartmouth
NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA (UMASS D Sports Info)- The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's lacrosse team opened a 10-0 lead after the first quarter and went on to defeat visiting Mitchell, 24-3, at Cressy Field Wednesday afternoon.
Walsh scored three goals within a span of three minutes in the third quarter as the Corsairs raced to an 11-6 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Senior attackman Robert Young (Billerica, MA/Billerica HS), sophomore attackman Andrew Foster (Newbury, MA/Danvers HS) and freshman midfielder Steve Espinola (Groton, MA/Groton Dunstable HS) each scored three goals to lead the Corsair attack. Foster and Young each added a pair of assists. Zach Ledvina, Tim Goldberg and Jeff Dineen scored for the Pequots, who were out shot, 53-10.
Junior goalkeeper Steve Chase (Boston, MA/Boston Latin HS) started and made one save for the Corsairs, before freshman Brendan Casey (Groveland, MA/Pentucket HS) took over and registered five saves while playing the final three quarters. Shane Gray and Jeff Cretella combined to make 18 saves for Mitchell.
UMass Dartmouth improved to 2-0 with the victory, while Mitchell dropped to 0-1 with the defeat. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Becker next Thursday afternoon, while the Pequots will host Lyndon State Saturday.
