Men's Soccer Falls to Lyndon State in Season Opener

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Mitchell College men's soccer team fell to Lyndon State College, 1-0, in the 2009 season opener for the Mariners.  Lyndon State freshman Patrice Lumumba scored the lone goal of the afternoon. For Mitchell, Kevin Woodford made four saves in the goal.

The game was close and hard-fought, and Lumumba's unassisted goal at the 23:34 mark of the first half was all that separated the two teams.  The Mariners had a slight advantage in shots, 12-11, on the afternoon.

The Lyndon goalkeeper, Ian Oliver, was able to make a couple of big saves and tallied seven saves for the game.

Mitchell falls to 0-1 while Lyndon State improves to 2-0 for the 2009 campaign.  Mitchell is back on the pitch on Wednesday, September 9 when they host Bridgewater State.
