Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Mitchell College men's soccer team lost a hard-fought battle against Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday afternoon by a 1-0 final.

The Blue Knights (4-3-1 overall) scored the game's lone goal in the 80th minute off a corner kick, with freshman Ku Lekaj recording his first career goal on a header. The Mariners (2-5-0 overall) scrambled to net the equalizer in the final 10 minutes but came up empty.

Mitchell controlled the pace throughout and had multiple opportunities to score. The Mariners pressured the defense with 18 shots but could not put one over the goal line. Mount Saint Mary goalkeepers Patrick McGinnis and Paul Aries combined for the clean sheet and each made two saves.

With the game scoreless after nearly 80 minutes, the Blue Knights earned a corner kick and set up their attack. Sophomore Francesco Marando served the ball from the right corner and put it five yards in front of the near post. Lekaj got his head on the ball and placed it in the right corner, just out of the reach of Mitchell keeper Kevin Woodford. Woodford finished with two saves in the contest.

Mitchell returns to conference play at Newbury College on Saturday, October 3 at 12 p.m.
