Cavanaugh Tabbed NECC Player of the Week

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College sophomore Graham Cavanaugh was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the sport of men's tennis, as announced by the conference on Monday morning.

Cavanaugh went 2-0 in both singles and doubles play last week to lead the Mariners. He picked up both of Mitchell's points in a loss against Regis College, teaming with Zachary Simmons to win 8-2 at No. 2 doubles before posting a 6-0, 3-1 (ret.) victory at No. 3 singles. In Mitchell's 8-1 win over Becker College he earned a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles and teamed with Simmons once again to produce an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles.

Cavanaugh has posted a 4-1 singles record this season while primarily playing at the No. 2 spot. He also owns a 4-1 doubles record with Simmons as the team's top tandem.

Cavanaugh, an all-conference selection as a freshman, earned weekly conference honors for the third time in his career. Last season he was a two-time NECC Rookie of the Week selection.

Mitchell (3-2 overall, 2-2 NECC) will host Albertus Magnus College later today at 3:30 p.m.
