Sailing Finishes Eighth at Coast Guard
NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Mitchell College sailing team opened the
spring season with an eighth place finish at the Clarke Open
Sailing Regatta hosted by the Coast Guard Academy over the
weekend.
Sophomore Alex Hering and freshmen Kim Parker, Jared
LaFosse-Baker, and Alexandra Bollella represented Mitchell and
raced in Colgate 26s. Tufts University won the event while
Coast Guard finished second. Mitchell placed eighth
out of nine teams, a strong finish for the
team considering it was the first time it had ever
sailed Colgate 26s.
Most races found Hering and Parker skippering the boat to
a sixth place finish, with the former driving the
boat in fourth place around many of the marks during one of the
races. Bollella and LaFosse-Baker, each
participating in their first collegiate sailing regatta, were
strong in their debuts.
