Coach's Corner
Over the weekend the Mitchell College sailing team participated at the Roger Williams University Invite.
Saturday, October 8
All races (two in each division) were very light, with less than 5 knots with tons of current and run away marks.
Sunday, October 9
More of the same on Sunday, as the breeze never settled between the west and southeast and never blew harder than around 4 knots. Only two more races were sailed before it was called at 2:40 p.m.
The light air continued to haunt this team, but this regatta was somewhat of a drifting race rather than a sailing race. Alex Hering and Chelsea Abbenante finished 13th out of the 15 teams in A Division. The two had two top-10 finishes out of their four races.
Sailing in their first ever regatta as a boat, Mike D'Amico and Jared LaFosse-Baker also finished 13th out of 15 teams in B Division. They had one top-ten finish -- a great tribute to their effort in preparing for the event. We finished in 14th place as team and earned some welcome points toward our New England ranking. I wish to thank the parents who made it up on this beautiful weekend to root the team on. All fan support is greatly appreciated!
