FOUR MITCHELL COLLEGE STUDENT-ATHLETES NAMED TO WINTER/SPRING NECC ACADEMIC ALL-CONFERENCE
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Four Mitchell College student-athletes have been named to the New England Collegiate Conference Academic All-Conference for the winter/spring 2009 semester, it was announced today by Commissioner Del Malloy. Three Mitchell softball players, Lindsey Donelin, Kelly Reynolds, and Liz Roy as well as one men’s basketball player, Mike DePaolo, were honored.

Mitchell Falls to Lesley in Inaugural NECC Softball Championship
BOSTON, Mass. – The Mitchell College softball team lost two games to Lesley University on Sunday, and the wins earned the Lesley Lynx the inaugural 2009 New England Collegiate Conference Softball Championship. The title marks the second conference championship in a row that the Lynx have won, as they defeated Mitchell College in the finals.

Mitchell Softball Advances With Two Wins at NECC Championship
OSTON, Mass. – The Mitchell College softball team won two games on Saturday and have put themselves in the best possible situation to win the championship going into the final day of play. Mitchell (16-16-1) will face the winner of the game at 11:00 am on Sunday, May 3 between Lesley University and Daniel Webster College. In game two of the tournament, freshman shortstop Stacey Suplicki (New London, Conn./Saint Bernard) went 3-for-3 with two RBIs as she led the Mariners over the #2 seed Elms College Blazers with a 4-0 shutout victory.

The 2009 NECC All-Conference Softball Teams Announced, Krolikowski Named Player of the Year
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College junior catcher Sara Krolikowski (Bristol, Conn.), a criminal justice major, was named the 2009 NECC Softball Player of the Year. In conference play, Krolikowski played and started all 16 games with a .500 batting average and a 1.04 slugging percentage. She is ranked third in NECC play for her batting average (.500), first in runs batted in (24), fourth in hits (24), fifth in runs scored (20) and leads the league in home runs (8). Defensively, Krolikowski had 111 putouts, seven assists and only three errors behind the plate for a .975 fielding percentage. Krolikowski’s teammate outfielder Lindsey Donelin (Niantic, Conn.) earned NECC All-Conference First Team honors.

Softball Advances to NECC Semifinals With Win Against Wheelock
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College softball team (14-16-1) shut out Wheelock College this afternoon 8-0 and advanced to the NECC Semifinals this weekend which are hosted by #1 seed Lesley University. Freshman shortstop Stacey Suplicki led the team, as she went 2-for-3 and drove in four of Mitchell’s eight runs.

Softball Team Qualifies for NECC Tournament
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The Mitchell College softball team earned the #3 seed and qualified for the inaugural New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) tournament. The Mariners will host #6 seed Wheelock College on Tuesday, April 28th at 4:00 pm.

Softball Concludes Regular Season with Two Losses to Lesley
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College softball team wrapped up regular season play with two losses to NECC opponent Lesley University this afternoon. The first game was a close one, with Lesley pulling ahead in the fifth inning to gain the 7-4 win, and the second game was over in five innings due to the run rule being in effect with the score at 12-1 in the visitor’s favor.

Mitchell Softball Players Earn NECC Weekly Awards
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College senior outfielder Lindsey Donelin (Niantic, Conn.) was named NECC Player of the Week, and teammate Kristina Torres (Groton, Conn.) was tabbed as the Pitcher of the Week. Donelin batted .500 (14-for-28) with nine RBI and seven runs as the Mariners posted a 7-1 weekly NECC only performance. In addition to a .571 slugging percentage for the week, she added two doubles and three stolen bases. Donelin hit safely in all but one contest, including five multiple-hit games. She did not strikeout in 28 trips to the plate, finishing off the week with a .563 on-base percentage and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

Leicester, Mass- Mitchell College took both ends of the doubleheader against Becker College this afternoon, by the final scores of 10-0 and 5-4.

Mitchell Routes Southern Vermont in NECC Softball Action
BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Mitchell College softball team made quick work of the Moutaineers of Southern Vermont College in a NECC doubleheader, as the visiting team won both run-rule shortened contests, 14-0 and 13-2. Freshman hurler Kristina Torres (Groton, Conn.) was dominant on the mound in game one, as she only gave up two hits, no runs, and struck out 13 batters.

Mitchell Splits with Bay Path in NECC Softball Action
LONGMEADOW, Mass.— The Wildcats of Bay Path were able to take game one 4-3 against the Mariners of Mitchell College, and later fell 10-3 in the nightcap of New England Collegiate Conference doubleheader softball action today at Ryan Field.

Softball Sweeps Wheelock College in NECC Doubleheader
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College softball team swept the conference doubleheader with Wheelock this afternoon on a day when the two Mariner pitchers were dominant. Freshman Kristina Torres (Groton, Conn.) picked up the win in the first game, as she went the distance and gave up only two hits and struck out six. Marissa Thomas (New London, Conn.) was nearly as good in game two, as she only allowed three hits and one run in six innings of work. Mitchell won the first game 2-0, and the second game was stopped in the sixth inning due to the run rule with the home team winning 9-1.

Baseball and Softball Games Postponed
New London, Conn. - The Mitchell College baseball and softball games scheduled for Saturday, April 11th have been postponed due to weather. The baseball game against Daniel Webster College will be on Tuesday, April 21st at 2:00 pm. The softball game with Wheelock College is now on Monday, April 13th at 3:00 pm.

Blue Jays Sweep Mitchell in Softball Doubleheader
NEW LONDON, Conn. - Saint Joseph College swept the Mitchell Mariners in a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon, 7-5, 4-0. The Blue Jays out-hit the host team by a 19-14 margin, and their pitchers only gave up two earned runs in the two victories.

Elms Sweeps Softball Doubleheader
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College softball team fell in both games of an NECC doubleheader this afternoon on the Mitchell College campus, and the scores were 8-6 and 6-5. Sara Krolikowski (Bristol, Conn.) and Stacey Suplicki (New London, Conn.) had strong offensive performances on the day, but the Blazers came away with two wins.

Krolikowski Powers Mariners to Split with Johnson & Wales
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Sara Krolikowski (Bristol, Conn.) went 3-for-4, drove in five RBI, and hit two home runs to help the Mitchell College softball team split a doubleheader with the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales this afternoon. Mitchell won the first game, 12-8, and fell in a close one in game two, 8-7.

Two Mitchell Softball Players Honored by NECC
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College softball player Sara Krolikowski (Bristol, Conn.) was named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week, and teammate Kristina Torres (Groton, Conn.) was tabbed as the NECC Rookie of the Week. A junior catcher, Krolikowski, batted .615 (8-for-13) with four home runs and 10 RBI as the Mariners posted an unbeaten 3-0-1 record against NECC opponents Daniel Webster and Newbury. In addition to slugging an impressive 1.500 for the week, Krolikowski batted .625 (5-for-7) with three homers and seven RBI in a doubleheader against Daniel Webster. She closed out her stellar week by batting .500 (3-for-6) with one round-tripper and three RBI in a twinbill against Newbury.

Softball Drops Two to Coast Guard Academy
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to the Coast Guard Academy today, 5-0, 4-0. The pitching staff for the Bears held the Mariner batters to two hits in the first game and five in the second game.

Krolikowski Hits Three Homers in Softball Doubleheader
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Sarah Krolikowski (Bristol, Conn.) hit three home runs including a grand slam in a softball doubleheader this afternoon against conference foe Daniel Webster College. Mitchell won the first game 10-4, and the second game was called due to darkness in the seventh inning with the score tied 8-8.

Two Mitchell Student-Athletes Selected for NCAA National Leadership Conference
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Two Mitchell College student-athletes have been selected to attend the 2009 NCAA Student-Athlete Development Conference May 24-27 in Orlando, Fla. at the Walt Disney World Coronado Spring Resort. Mike DePaolo (Asbury, N.J.) of the men’s basketball team and Kelly Reynolds (Waterford, Conn.), a softball player, were chosen to represent Mitchell College at the conference which will have participants from all three NCAA divisions.

Mitchell Falls to Rutgers-Camden in Doubleheader
ORLANDO, Fla. (March 16, 2009) – Rutgers-Camden exploded for 25 hits, while pitchers Natalie Powell (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and Ashley Jimenez (Bellmawr, NJ/Triton Regional) allowed only seven hits and one earned run in 13 innings as the Raptors swept Mitchell College of New London, Connecticut, 7-1 and 8-0. The second game ended in the sixth inning due to the eight-run mercy rule.

Softball Falls to Rutgers-Camden in Florida
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Lady Raptors ripped nine hits and took advantage of a hit batsman and two errors in a 10-run first inning and went on to win 11-1 over Mitchell College today in Florida. Junior left fielder Stephanie Klotz (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) started the ball rolling with a leadoff single, the first of 15 Raptor hits in the game. Skroski and Speakman had back-to-back RBI doubles for the first two runs. Freshman catcher Erika Drayton (Blackwood, NJ/Triton Regional) doubled home two runs and scored on a triple by Vicki D’Anduono. Four singles and a pair of errors plated five more runs.

Mitchell Softball Has High Hopes in 2009
With eight returning players and eight freshmen, the Mitchell College softball team is expecting a successful season, and they are excited about competing in the newly-formed New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) . The freshmen class is highlighted by two pitchers, Kristina Torres (Groton, Conn.) and Marissa Thomas (New London, Conn.). Both players were successful on the mound during their high school careers, and Coach Donelin is looking forward to seeing them excel at the collegiate level. The Mariners begin the 2009 season on their spring trip in Florida at the Disney Wide World of Sports complex during the week of March 12-17.
