Krolikowski Hits Three Homers in Softball Doubleheader
NEW LONDON, Conn. - Sarah Krolikowski (Bristol, Conn.) hit three home runs including a grand slam in a softball doubleheader this afternoon against conference foe Daniel Webster College. Mitchell won the first game 10-4, and the second game was called due to darkness in the seventh inning with the score tied 8-8.
In the first contest, Mitchell jumped out to a 3-0 lead on singles by Nikki Hoxie (Winsted, Conn.) and Krolikowski. The Mariners would score four more runs in the second inning on Krolikowski's grand slam. Her bomb drove in Jen Bordonaro (Winsted, Conn.) and Lindsey Donelin (Niantic, Conn.) who had singled and Hoxie would had walked.
The visiting Eagles would put together a rally in the fourth inning and score two runs on singles by Theresa DiSantis (Hinsdale, Mass.) and Amanda Wilson (Merrimack, N.H.). The Mariners would score two more runs in the fifth inning to seal their first conference win of the 2009 season.
Krolikowski finished the game going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI's, while Brittany Zaccaria (White Plains, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 with two RBI's and a run. Mitchell had a good day running the bases as Donelin, Hoxie, and Liz Roy (Jewett City, Conn.) all finished with two stolen bases each.
Kristina Torres picked up her second win of the season, and Amanda Wilson took the loss for the Eagles.
In game two, Krolikowski hit her second home run of the day in the fourth inning to give the Mariners a 2-1 lead. Mitchell would rally in the fifth inning and score five runs on singles by Arielle Torres (Emerson, N.J.), Donelin, and Hoxie.
The visiting Eagles would make the game interesting as they scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 8-7 lead. During the rally, Amy Walker (Berlin, Mass.) and DiSantis hit doubles, and Lauren Chesnulevich (Hudson, N.H.) hit a home run.
Krolikowski came through again for the Mariners in the bottom of the seventh inning, as she led off the inning with a solo home run to tie the game at 8. At the conclusion of the seventh inning, the game was called due to darkness.
Donelin was perfect going 3-for-3 and Zaccaria went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
The Mariners are back on the diamond on Saturday, March 28, when they travel to Newbury College.
