Softball Falls to Rutgers-Camden in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Lady Raptors ripped nine hits and took advantage of a hit batsman and two errors in a 10-run first inning and went on to win 11-1 over Mitchell College today in Florida.  Junior left fielder Stephanie Klotz (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) started the ball rolling with a leadoff single, the first of 15 Raptor hits in the game. Skroski and Speakman had back-to-back RBI doubles for the first two runs. Freshman catcher Erika Drayton (Blackwood, NJ/Triton Regional) doubled home two runs and scored on a triple by Vicki D'Anduono. Four singles and a pair of errors plated five more runs.

Klotz, Skroski, junior center fielder Nikki DiVece (Pine Hill, NJ/Overbrook Regional) and sophomore third baseman Krista White (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) each collected two hits in the game. Klotz and Skroski had both of their hits in the opening inning before leaving the contest.

While the Raptors' offense was keeping busy, Powell and junior Ashley Jimenez (Bellmawr, NJ/Triton Regional) were trying to combine for a no-hitter. The Mariners were hitless until the fifth inning, when sophomore center fielder Jen Bordonaro (Winsted, CT/The Gilbert School) stroked a two-out RBI single to left field off of Jimenez.

Powell worked the first two innings. She allowed one walk and struck out one in the second game, following her three-inning save in the opener. Jimenez picked up the victory with three innings in relief, since Powell didn't work the minimum four innings. Jimenez  (3-1) allowed two hits - both with two outs in the fifth inning - one earned run and one walk. She struck out two.  Mitchell will try to bounce back on Monday, March 16th when they play Rutgers-Camden in a doubleheader starting at 4:00 pm.
