Jan 28, 2007 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ENDS EIGHT GAME WINNING STREAK FOR AD3I FOE LINCOLN NEW LONDON, CT --- Mitchell College ended a 8 game
winning streak for the Lions of Lincoln University in their
Association of Division III Independent match-up Sunday afternoon
at the Yarnall Athletic Center. Mitchell, now 6-10 on
the season, won the match up 76-66. The Lions leave New
London at 12-7.
Senior guard Alva Jeffreys (Bridgeport,
CT/Kolbe Cathedral) led the Pequots for the eighth straight game
with her season-high 33 points and 4 steals. Jeffreys tallied
the last 11 straight points for the Pequot victory. Sophomore
center Ashley Hansen (Clinton, CT/The
Morgan School) finished the afternoon with her sixth double-double
performance of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Lincoln's freshman guard Shanice Nesmith (Philadephia,
PA/University City) scored 21 points, senior center Mary Rotimi
(Philadelphia, PA/Frankford) (18 points, 13 rebounds) and junior
guard Sharell McMillan (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) (17 and 12)
finished with double-doubles. It was Rotimi's 31st career
double-double and a career high in rebounds for McMillan, who
scored in double figures for the 10th consecutive game.
Although the Pequots led the majority of the contest, the Lions
were able to cut their 16 point deficit to two points (66-68) with
a minute and a half left to play. While Lincoln dominated the
boards, 51 to Mitchell's 27, the Pequots' shooting in the second
half made all the difference. Mitchell finished 54.8% from
the floor.
Mitchell will head to Rhode Island College on Tuesday, January
30th for a 5:30 PM tip-off. Lincoln returns to
action on Wednesday when they host Ramapo College (5:00 PM).
