Moseley, Chagan Guide Daniel Webster Past Mitchell
92-76
Nashua - The duo of senior Erin Moseley (Sterling, Mass.) and
freshman Joyce Chagan (Boothbay Harbor, Maine) combined for 59
points with Moseley knocking down 31 and Chagan adding 28 guiding
host Daniel Webster past Mitchell, 92-76 in a preview of New
England Collegiate Conference rivals Wednesday night at Vagge
Gymnasium.
Both squads will join the newly formed NECC next season.
Moseley added 13 rebounds for the double double and went 12 of
20 from the field and Chagan dished out eight assists going 12 of
18 from the field as the Eagles (10-14) halted a nine-game slide
with the victory.
Jennifer Iglesias (Waterbury, Conn.)
led the Pequots (5-19) in their season finale with a 25-point,
six-assist effort, while Julie
Graham (Waterbury) added 14 points and Brittany Smyth (Winsted, Conn.) chipped in
with 13 including four three pointers.
Ashley Boyd (Hanson, Mass.) just missed a double double for the
Eagles with eight points and 12 boards.
The Eagles won the game in the paint, finishing with an
overwhelming 60-27 advantage on the glass (44 defensively) and
outscored the Pequots 50-26 under the boards.
DWC sizzled in the first half, shooting 60% from the field while
Mitchell shot 29%. The Eagles opened with a 18-6 run over 5:02
keyed by four layups from Moseley. The lead grew to as large as 16
and the Eagled led 46-31 at the break.
Chagan and Moseley continued their hot hands in the second and a
Moseley layup made it a 65-43 lead with 12:58 to play.
Mitchell answered with a quick 12-4 run keyed by three straight
jumpers from Iglesias and a three pointer from Marjorie Oliviera
(Waterbury) for a 69-55 game with 8:49 to go.
But Sarah Shea (Quincy, Mass.) followed with a three to quell
the Pequot rally and the Eagles did not let Mitchell closer than 12
over the closing minutes.
With her 31 points, Moseley inched closer to the Daniel Webster
all-time scoring record. She now stands 17 points short of tying
Sheryl Arduino's (2001) 1,404 career points with one game
remaining.
Shea, who finished with seven points, moved into seventh place
all time on the Eagle scoring leader board.
The Eagles close out their 2007-08 campaign Saturday as they
host Lasell in their final GNAC contest tipping off at 1:00 p.m.
