Mitchell Women Defeated By CCNY

 NEW YORK, N.Y. - Brittany Smyth (Winsted, Conn.) led Mitchell with 15 points in a non-conference loss, 73-64, on the road to City College of New York Monday tonight.  Bianca Young (Bridgeport, Conn.) had 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Ashley Chestnut (Bridgeport, Conn.) chipped in 10 points.

 CCNY was led by Ashley Straughn (Freeport, N.Y.) and Nadia Tijani (Bronx, N.Y.), who both registered double-doubles in the win with 20 points and 15 rebounds and 19 points and 12 rebounds respectively.

 Mitchell had a two point advantage at the halfway mark, as the first half was a back and forth battle with neither team leading by more than seven points at any time.  The second half was more of the same, until the game was tied for the 11^th time with 5:43 left to play.  The Beavers then used a 9-2 run to take control of the game and close out the nine point victory.

 Mitchell falls to 1-5 on the season, while CCNY improves to 5-2.  The Mariners close out the first semester with their home-opener on Wednesday, December 10th against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts at 6:00 pm.  CCNY is back in action on December 29, 2008 at home against Gallaudet University.
