Harris Named NECC Rookie of the Week in Womens Hoops
NEW LONDON, CONN. -- Mitchell College freshman center Destiney Harris (Bristol, Conn.) averaged 15.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game and led the Mariners to a 2-1 weekly record, including a pair of NECC victories. In a tough 77-73 non-conference loss to Connecticut College, Harris recorded 24 points and 15 rebounds. She added eight points and seven rebounds in a 72-37 victory over Bay Path and also chipped in 14 points and nine boards in a 79-37 win over Wheelock. Over the three-game span, Harris shot 53% from the floor (16-for-30) and a sizzling 82% from the free-throw line (14-for-17).
Harris is averaging an impressive 13.2 points and 9.8 rebounds per game for the Mariners, who are undefeated (5-0) in conference play at this point in the season. She also has 20 steals, and is shooting 50% from the field and 78% from the free throw line. This is the third time this season that Harris has been named the NECC's Rookie of the Week.
