WBB to Play at Newbury in NECC Quarterfinals
ATTLEBORO, Mass. - The Mitchell College women's basketball team will be the sixth seed in the 2012 NECC Championship and will play at third-seeded Newbury College in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, February 21 at 7:00 p.m.
Newbury (15-10, 13-5 NECC) won both regular season meetings against Mitchell (8-16, 7-11 NECC). The teams will meet for the second time in the NECC Championship. The Mariners won the first meeting by a final of 73-65 in the quarterfinals of the 2010 tournament.
Regis College finished the regular season 18-0 and earned the top seed in the tournament. The Pride (21-4, 18-0 NECC) earned a first-round bye and will host the semifinals and finals begining Friday, February 24.
The remaining six teams will all play quarterfinal games on Tuesday. Elms College (17-8, 14-4 NECC) earned the second seed and will host Bay Path College (6-16, 6-12 NECC) while fifth seed Becker College (8-17, 8-10 NECC) will travel to fourth seed Daniel Webster College (17-8, 13-5 NECC).
The top seven teams qualify for the NECC Championship. Predetermined tiebreaking procedures were used to seed teams with identical conference winning percentages.
First round games will be played on Tuesday, February 21 at the higher seed. Winners will advance to the semifinals held at Regis on Friday, February 24. Semifinal winners will play Saturday, February 25 at Regis. The winner of the 2012 NECC Championship will earn the conference's automatic bid for the NCAA Championship.
