Men’s Golf Competes on Opening Day of GNAC Championship
HAMDEN, Conn. – After inclement weather postponed the opening round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Golf Championship to Tuesday, October 14, four Mitchell College golfers took to the course for the first round, hosted by Albertus Magnus College at New Haven Country Club.
Sophomore Luke Pavia (Bolton, Mass.) led the Mariners with a round of 96 (+26), followed by fellow sophomore Nathan Mahoney (Stonington, Conn.), who carded a 101 (+31). Seniors Walker Baillargeon (Norwich, Conn.) and Jacob Quiles (Wallkill, N.Y.) rounded out the team scoring with rounds of 103 (+33) and 104 (+34), respectively.
Norwich's Cooper Bertrand holds the individual lead at +1 after day one, while host Albertus Magnus sits atop the team leaderboard at +36 in a field of eight teams.
The Mariners will return to New Haven Country Club on Wednesday, October 15, for the second and final day of the tournament, with the first group scheduled to tee off at 8:30 a.m.
