Men’s Basketball Closes 2025 with Loss to Warriors
BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Mitchell College men's basketball team battled to the final possession on Friday afternoon but came up just short in a hard-fought 66–64 road loss to Webber International University in non-conference action at the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
The Mariners led for stretches of the opening half and went into the locker room trailing by just two, 38–36, after shooting efficiently and controlling the glass early. Mitchell finished the game with a 35–35 rebounding tie, including 16 offensive boards that helped keep the Mariners within striking distance throughout.
Freshman Jaxyn Beaudet (Groton, Conn.) led Mitchell with a team-high 15 points and nine rebounds, shooting 7-of-13 from the field while adding three assists and a block. Junior Troy Butler (Manchester, Conn.) matched him with 15 points, attacking the basket consistently and adding two assists. Senior Brandon Lee (Stockton, Calif.) contributed across the stat sheet with seven points, eight rebounds, and five steals, anchoring the defense for the Mariners.
Mitchell's interior presence was highlighted by sophomore Abdul Mansaray (Jacksonville, Fla.), who pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, including eight on the offensive end, while dishing out three assists.
The second half saw both teams trade baskets, with neither side leading by more than a few possessions. The Warriors connected on timely perimeter shots down the stretch, finishing 10-of-23 from three-point range, including six triples from Nirobi Peeler Jr., who scored a game-high 20 points.
Despite holding the Warriors to 41.1 percent shooting overall, the Mariners were unable to convert late free throws and key opportunities in the final minute. Mitchell closed the game shooting 43.3 percent from the field but went 8-of-19 at the free throw line.
The Mariners (4–8, 0–0 GNAC) will pause for the holiday break before opening Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday, January 10, with a game at Saint Joseph's College (ME).
