Play Suspended at 2009 ECAC DIII Men's New England Golf Championship
FARMINGTON, Conn. - First round play of the 2009 ECAC Division III
Men's New England Golf Championships was suspended due to inclement
weather late in the first round of the two day championship at
Tunxis Plantation Country Club on Saturday, October 3. Eleven of
the 14 teams completed first round play.
Play was suspended for Brandeis University, Castleton State College
and Endicott College due to inclement weather. Brandeis, Castleton
and Endicott will complete first round play at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday,
October 4 and move onto the second round at 9:00 a.m.
Johnson & Wales University and University of
Massachusetts-Dartmouth currently lead the field with a score of
309. Bobby Newcomb (Quincy, Mass.) of Johnson & Wales
and Pat Pio (Somers, Conn.) of Nichols each hit par (72) to
finish on top of the individual leader board.
Freshman Michael Baker led the Mariners by posting an 82 in
the opening round and is tied for 21st overall. John Pescheta (89,
44th), Tad Maynard (92, T-47th), Willard Visel (94, T-49th) and
Richard Palaia (96, 52nd) rounded out the scoring for Mitchell.
Mitchell is scheduled to tee off at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. The
tournament will conclude with a final round of 18 holes at Tunxis
Plantation Country Club.
