Bio

John Walsh enters his first season as an assistant coach of the women’s program in the fall of 2023.

Walsh has been working at the premier youth level with the renowned Oakwood Soccer Club since 2020. Since 2012 he has been involved in various roles at Marlborough Soccer Club and supported the formation of RHAM Youth Soccer, where he has been serving as Director of Coaching since 2017. In 2015 he was recognized as Recreational Coach of the Year for a female team by Connecticut Junior Soccer Association.

“We are thrilled to bring someone as experienced as John to our program,” said head coach Marc Davis. “His knowledge of the game and enthusiasm to continue his education can only help take our program to new levels.”

Walsh holds his United States Soccer Federation ‘B’ License, Welsh Football Association ‘C’ Certificate and other qualifications from United Soccer Coaches Association and TOVO Institute.

Originally from Country Cork, Ireland, John played soccer and Gaelic football throughout his youth. His focus remained on soccer, after he moved to Massachusetts in 1994. He has played in amateur leagues and continues to play here in Connecticut. Walsh received his Bachelors of Science degree in Materials Science from University of Limerick in 1994, Masters in Technology Management from Rensselaer at Hartford in 2005, Masters in Business Management from Manchester Business School (United Kingdom) in 2011, and is currently pursuing Masters of Science in Materials Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he expects to graduate by June 2024.

Walsh currently resides in Marlborough, Conn. with his two daughters. He works full-time at Pratt & Whitney as a Technology Manager and has been there twenty-four years in a variety of roles.

Meet The Coach
Fiona Walsh

Fiona Walsh was named the next head coach of the Mitchell College women’s soccer program in December of 2025.

Walsh will make her collegiate head coaching debut with the Mariners in the fall of 2026 and brings a strong combination of collegiate coaching experience and elite playing credentials.

Walsh joins the Mariners after serving as an assistant women’s soccer coach at Trinity College, where she was appointed Acting Interim Head Coach during the spring of 2024. In that role, she led all team operations, including recruiting and player development. Her responsibilities included identifying and recruiting high-achieving student-athletes nationwide, organizing campus visits, preparing scouting reports, assisting with game-day strategy, and overseeing set pieces, strength and conditioning, and supplemental training sessions.

Prior to Trinity, Walsh served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Clark University, where she helped guide the program to its first NEWMAC Championship appearance. She also brings extensive club and semi-professional coaching experience within ECNL, ECNL Regional League, EDP, and UWS environments, along with specialized goalkeeper training experience.

A former standout goalkeeper at Vassar College, Walsh was a two-year team captain and program record-holder who helped lead the Brewers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance. She earned multiple conference and national honors, including NCAA Division III Player of Distinction recognition.

Walsh holds a bachelor’s degree from Vassar College and a master’s degree in teaching from Clark University. She is USSF “C” licensed and holds multiple United Soccer Coaches certifications.
