Baseball Unveils 2025 Schedule
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College baseball team and second-year head coach Shawn Gilblair recently unveiled their schedule for the upcoming 2025 season.
The Mariners made a splash during their first year in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), tying the program record with 34 wins, posting a 14-2 mark in conference play, and winning the conference title in the best of three championship series against Johnson & Wales University. This earned the team an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament and a trip to the NCAA Regional Round hosted by Babson College. After defeating the host Beavers on the opening day of the Regional, the Mariners knocked off nationally ranked Salisbury University on the second day, yet were defeated by the Seagulls twice during day three, ending their season.
A 40-game regular season that features 17 home games, as well as a trip to Florida for spring break, officially is slated to get underway on Friday, February 21, when the Mariners travel to New Jersey for two-game road trip against Kean University. The Mariners will square off against the Cougars at 3:00 pm on Friday, before playing game number two the following day at 12:00 pm.
A six-game home stand follows, featuring the team's home opener at Alumni Field on Friday, February 28, a non-conference showdown with Rhode Island College at 3:30 pm. The Mariners then head south for eight games in the sunshine state at the Russmatt Baseball Invitational, highlighted by games against Johns Hopkins University and Rowan University, who are ranked #6 and #21 respectively in the 2025 D3basebal.com/NCBWA Preseason Top 25.
Upon returning from Florida, Mitchell will continue their out of conference schedule, including a clash with Salve Regina University on Thursday, March 20. The Seahawks enter the spring ranked #2 in the 2025 D3basebal.com/NCBWA Preseason Top 25 and are coming off an appearance in the Division III College World Series.
Conference play officially opens up on Saturday, March 22, when the Mariners welcome Anna Maria College to New London. The month of March rounds out with GNAC games against Colby-Sawyer College, Albertus Magnus College, and New England College, with a non-league matchup against MIT in the middle. April kicks off with a conference home game against Lasell University on April 1, before the Mariners face two non-league opponents, Wesleyan University and UMass Boston. A home game against Rivier University (4/05) and a road trip to Dean College (4/06) follow, before a trip to Keene State College (4/09) and a GNAC doubleheader at home against the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on April 12.
From there, the Mariners enter the home stretch of the regular season, journeying to Vermont to face Norwich before returning to New London for a doubleheader rematch of the GNAC Championship against the Wildcats on Friday, April 18. A road game at Saint Joseph's College (ME) is next, followed by the final non-conference game of the season at Coast Guard on April 24. The regular season concludes with two GNAC games at Elms College on Saturday, April 26.
The GNAC baseball tournament will begin with two pods of four teams playing in a double elimination format from Friday, May 2, through Sunday, May 4.
