MBB Draws #1 Randolph-Macon in NCAA First Round
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's basketball team will face Randolph-Macon College in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Division III Championship on Friday, March 4 at 7:00 p.m.
The Mariners (17-10 overall) will make their third NCAA appearance against the top-ranked team in the country, according to the latest D3hoops.com poll. Randolph-Macon enters the tournament with an overall record of 27-1 and a streak of 21 straight wins.
Mitchell earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship by winning the New England Collegiate Conference Championship. The Mariners defeated top-seeded Eastern Nazarene College by an 87-83 final in the title game to secure the league's automatic bid for the third time since 2014.
The Yellow Jackets punched their NCAA ticket by winning the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship by a 74-59 final over Virginia Wesleyan University. Randolph-Macon, which has won the ODAC the last three years, will be making its 27th appearance in the NCAA field.
Randolph-Macon will host the first and second rounds of the tournament, which begins on Friday at 4:30 p.m. with a contest between DeSales University (22-5) and Babson College (18-7). The winners of Friday's first-round games will meet on Saturday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m.
