Golf's Abbott Named NECC Rookie of the Week
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College freshman Andrew Abbott was named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the sport of men's golf, as announced by the league on Monday morning.
Abbott finished atop the 26-player field at the Nighthawk Kickoff Classic Tournament on September 14 at the Robert T. Lynch Golf Club, helping the Mariners to a third-place finish at the event. He finished the day with an even-par score of 71. The Walpole native was lights out on the back nine, recording four birdies from the 12th hole to the 16th to secure medalist honors.
Abbott has played in three matches this season and currently sports the lowest stroke average on the team (76.0). His aforementioned round of 71 was the lowest by a Mitchell golfer since 2007.
Mitchell returns to action at the Newbury Invitational on Wednesday, September 23 at 10 a.m.
