McLean Claims Medalist Honors at Brett Williamson Invitational
WESTFIELD, Mass. - Mitchell College's Shamus McLean (Groton, Conn.) birdied the first playoff hole to win the 2024 Brett Williamson Invitational golf tournament hosted by Westfield State University at Tekoa Country Club on Wednesday.
McLean shot 74 for his round, which was matched by New England College's Graham Hassan. The two players played off on Tekoa's first hole, with both tee shots finding the fairway.
Hassan's second shot from the 150 marker found the left side bunker, while McLean took advantage of having hit driver on his first shot, and dropped a short iron about seven feet above the pin.
After Hassan played out of the bunker, McLean rolled his putt in for birdie and the title.
New England College claimed team honors with a score of 307 followed by Worcester State at 316 with MCLA rounding up the top three with a 325 team score.
As a team, the Mariners placed seventh out of 10 with a team score of 342 (+58).
Following McLean, senior Jack Hayes (New Milford, Conn.) fired a 71 (+10), while freshman Israel Smith (Houston, TX) was third on the team with a 90 (+17). Liam Kane (Waterford, Conn.) and Nathan Mahoney (Stonington, Conn.) rounded out the Mitchell golfers with scores of 97 (+26) and 110 (+39) respectively.
The Mitchell men's golf team will return to their home course for the Mitchell Invitational III on Wedneday, October 2.
