Mitchell Announces Bashant as Head XC Coach
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College has named Michael Bashant as head coach of its men's and women's cross country programs, as announced by Interim Director of Athletics Todd Peretz on Monday.
Bashant, a native of Ballston Lake, N.Y., will make his head coaching debut with the Mariners. He recently graduated from the University of New Hampshire where he was a three-year member of the cross country and indoor/outdoor track and field teams.
"We are very excited to welcome Michael as our head men's and women's cross country coach," said Peretz. "He is an outstanding hire for Mitchell College, and his passion for the sport and desire to continue building the program was evident in the hiring process. I know he will do an outstanding job with our current student-athletes, as well as in recruiting."
Bashant will take over all aspects of the program. In addition to recruiting for the fall season, he will develop and run team practices this spring while exploring the possibilities for competition.
"I'd like to thank Todd Peretz and Mitchell College for this opportunity," said Bashant. "I'm looking forward to the progression of the program and I am excited to begin taking steps towards our future goals."
A three-time America East Academic Honor Roll selection, Bashant graduated from UNH with a degree in physics.
