Women's Tennis Drops Season Opener to Becker
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's tennis team
dropped its season and conference opener by a 7-2 margin to Becker
College on Saturday afternoon at the Mitchell College Tennis
Courts.
The Mariners (0-1 overall, 0-1 NECC) picked up one point in doubles
play before Becker (4-1 overall, 1-0 NECC) won five of the six
singles matches. Both Danielle Stryker and Shauna McNally were
undefeated on the day for the Hawks. Stryker defeated Mitchell's Lauren Rowley
6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and teamed with McNally to post an 8-0
victory at No. 2 doubles. McNally took her No. 4 singles match over
Amanda
Resnick by finals of 6-1, 6-1.
Lianana Woodbury posted an impressive victory at No. 6 singles for
the Hawks. Trailing 5-4 in the first set, Woodbury rallied to win
nine straight games and earn a 7-5, 6-0 decision over Caitlin Brown.
Mitchell's lone win in singles came at the No. 1 spot where
Mackenzie Flanagan took care of Megan Nessen by scores of 7-5, 6-1.
The doubles team of Ashley Boutin and Rebecca Ciccarone also gave
the Mariners an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
Mitchell will next host Lyndon State College on Sunday, September
12 at noon.
