Bay Path Sinks Women's Tennis 7-2
LONGMEADOW, Mass. - The Bay Path College women's tennis
team defeated New England Collegiate Conference rival Mitchell
College by a 7-2 final on Tuesday afternoon.
NECC Player of the Week Sarah Costa and Carolina Ynguanzo continued
their singles streak, each winning their fifth straight match for
the Wildcats. Bay Path's Costa took the No.
2 singles 6-3, 6-3 from senior Kelly Walsh. In #4 singles
action Ynguanzo defeated Ashley Boutin 6-1, 6-0.
The Mariners' two points came from the #1 singles and #5
singles. Freshman Mackenzie Flanagan, the NECC Rookie of the
Week, came from behind to defeat Lauren Hangasky 1-6, 6-0, 6-4
at the top spot. She improved to 4-1 overall on the season. Junior
Lauren Rowley earned her first victory of the season by beating
Lianna Loveitt in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
Bay Path (4-1 overall, 2-1 NECC) won all three doubles matches
by scores of 8-4, 8-1 and 8-3. Loveitt and her partner Shaneela
Shaheen nabbed the #3 doubles win 8-3 over Rowley and sophomore
Julie Embry.
Mitchell (0-5 overall, 0-2 NECC) will next host Lesley on Thursday,
September 23 at 3:30 p.m.
