Bay Path Downs Women's Tennis 7-2
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's tennis
team dropped a conference match to Bay Path College by a 7-2 final
on Friday afternoon at the Mitchell College Tennis Courts.
Bay Path (9-1 overall, 7-1 NECC) clinched at least a share of the
NECC regular season title with the victory. The Wildcats won two of
three doubles points and took five of the six singles matches.
Symone Watson and Carolina Ynguanzo led the charge, each
contributing wins in both doubles and singles action.
Mitchell's lone doubles point came at the No. 1 spot, where
freshman Mackenzie Flanagan and senior Kelly Walsh defeated Lauren
Hangasky and Sarah Costa by an 8-5 final. The Mariners' top
doubles squad has won its last three matches and improved to 4-3 in
conference play.
Hangasky rebounded to hand Flanagan her first conference loss of
the season at No. 1 singles. The two split sets before darkness set
in, and the match concluded with a 10-point tiebreaker in lieu of a
third set. Hangasky took the tiebreaker by a 16-14 margin.
Costa also avenged her doubles defeat with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over
Walsh at No. 2 singles. The rest of the Wildcats' singles
victories came in straight sets.
Junior Lauren Rowley turned in the only point for the Mariners in
singles play. She defeated Lianna Loveitt by finals of 6-2, 1-6,
6-4 to earn her second conference win of the season.
Mitchell (0-11 overall, 0-7 NECC) closes out conference play at
Lesley University on Saturday, October 9 at 1 p.m. Bay Path will
conclude its regular season by hosting MCLA on Saturday at 1
p.m.
