Women's Tennis Shuts Out Albertus Magnus, 9-0
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Mitchell College women's tennis team
closed out its regular season with a 9-0 victory at Albertus Magnus
College on Wednesday afternoon.
The Mariners (2-12 overall) swept every singles and doubles contest
en route to their biggest win of the season. Mitchell won the first
four singles matches in straight sets; the final two singles
matches were played as pro-8 sets due to the threat of
darnkess.
Junior Amanda
Resnick and sophomore Julie Embley each
picked up their first singles victories of the season, and the duo
of Resnick and senior Ashley
Boutin earned their first win at No. 2 doubles.
Embley and classmate Caitlin Brown also recorded their second
straight victory at No. 3 doubles.
Boutin, playing in the final match of her collegiate career, was
victorious at No. 4 singles by a final score of 6-0, 6-0. She
finished the year with a 3-3 overall record at the fourth spot.
Senior Kelly Walsh also closed out her career with a 6-0, 6-0 win
at No.2 singles.
Freshman Mackenzie Flanagan picked up wins at both No. 1 singles
and doubles. She finished the regular season a 10-4 record in
singles play to lead the team. Flanagan and Walsh, who were
victorious at No. 1 doubles, won seven of their
final nine doubles matches to end the season with a 7-7
overall record.
Mitchell will send three players to 2010 NECC Championship
over the weekend. The flighted tournament begins on Saturday,
October 16 at 4 p.m. at the Enfield Tennis Club.
