Flanagan Advances at NECC Women's Tennis Championship
ENFIELD, Conn.—The 2010 New England Collegiate Conference
(NECC) women's tennis tournament concluded day one at the Enfield
Tennis Club.
Bay Path College, Becker College, Lesley University and
Newbury College are the four schools left in the
doubles finals after defeating their conference opponents in
the first three flights.
Bay Path's #1 and #3 doubles partners each defeated their
opponents. With #2 seed junior Sarah Costa and senior Lauren
Hangasky along with #2 seed junior Lianna Loveitt and sophomore
Shaneela Shaheen moving to the final flight championship.
Becker's #1 and #2 flight tandems also advanced. #1 seed junior
Shauna McNally and her partner senior Danielle Stryker and #1
seed junior Laura Mimms and junior Megan Nessen both head to the
final bracket.
Both Lesley and Newbury each have one pair heading to the finals in
the Second Flight and the Third Flight. Advancing for the Lynx are
sister tandem senior Michelle Side and sophomore Katie Side along
with Nighthawks' sophomore Julie MacLeod and freshman Stephanie
Ruffin.
In singles action, the #1 flight finals will feature Mitchell
College freshman Mackenzie
Flanagan and Becker's Nessen. In the #2 flight Costa will face
Michelle Side, while in the #3 flight Stryker will play Katie
Side.
In the #4 singles action Bay Path senior Carolina Ynguanzo will
play McNally. In the #5 flight Lesley sophomore Brenna Donovan will
play Loveitt, while the #6 flight will see Wildcat freshman Ashley
Sears face Ruffin.
The 2010 New England Collegiate Conference Women's Tennis
Championship Tournament is an individual flighted tournament that
is based upon student-athletes' singles and doubles conference
records. Players were seeded as individual players and seeds are
not based on a team's finish. Trophies will be awarded to all six
singles flights' and all three doubles flights' winners.
