ATTLEBORO, Mass. – A pair of Mitchell College women's tennis players were recognized by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) on Monday morning.
Sophomore Mackenzie Flanagan was named NECC Player of the Week while freshman Jennifer Schmidt was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week. Each earned the distinction for the first time in their respective careers.
Flanagan went 3-1 at No. 1 singles last week to pace the Mariners. She picked up a pair of wins over Regis' Elora Granados (6-0, 6-4 and 6-4, 6-3) and also defeated Newbury's Kristen Conners (6-1, 7-5). In her only singles loss of the week, Flanagan lost to Becker's Megan Nessen in a 10-point tiebreaker in lieu of a third set (3-6, 6-4, 4-10).

Flanagan finished the season with an overall singles record of 9-3 and won seven of 10 matches against the conference's best players. Schmidt finished with a 4-6 overall singles mark at the No. 5 position and won three NECC contests.
