Cross Country Opens Season at Suffolk Short Course Classic
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The Mitchell College men's and women's cross country teams opened their seasons on Saturday morning at the Suffolk Short Course Classic, held at Highland Park's Mark Coogan Cross Country Course.
Senior Tim O'Hayre (Hull, Mass.) paced the Mitchell men, completing the 5K in 22:06. He was followed closely by junior Jonathan Hecker (Falls Church, Va.) at 22:21, while freshman Jeremy Collins (Stonington, Conn.) and sophomore Preston Cheng (Staten Island, N.Y.) rounded out the Mariners' lineup with times of 25:10 and 33:34, respectively.
Liam Lyons of the College of the Holy Cross was the top men's finisher with a time of 15:15, leading Holy Cross to the team title.
In the women's 3K, junior Madison Cole (Westbrook, Maine) was the first Mariner across the line, finishing in 19:03. Fellow junior Morgyn Perkins (Bristol, Conn.) followed at 19:59, while juniors CJ Alexander (New London, Conn.) and Sarah Latch (Hampstead, N.H.) rounded out the group with times of 27:38 and 27:50, respectively.
Ruth White of the University of New Hampshire won the women's race with a time of 10:59, while Northeastern University captured the team title.
The Mitchell men's and women's cross country teams return to action on Saturday, September 6, at the University of Hartford Invitational.
