XC's Hoffman, Wilson Earn NECC Weekly Honors
ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Two members of the Mitchell College men's cross
country team were honored by the New England Collegiate Conference
on Monday afternoon.
Junior John Hoffman was named NECC Performer of the Week while
freshman Vernon Wilson was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week. The duo
helped the Mariners to a second place finish at the Post University
Race on September 30.
Hoffman took first place at the event, clocking in at a time of
28:16 over the 8k course. He passed the leader in the final stages
of the race and finished 10 seconds ahead of his nearest
competitor, bettering his fastest time of the season by 16 seconds.
It was also his second individual victory of the fall, as he broke
the tape at the Eagle Invitational on September 18.
Wilson placed 10th at the event, the best finish of his young
career. He has lowered his time in every race this season, and at
Post he crossed the line at 33:52. The mark was 23 seconds faster
than his previous best time.
Mitchell will next host a race on Wednesday, October 7 at Stenger
Farm in Waterford, Conn. Race time is set for 4:30 p.m.
