2009 NECC Cross Country Championship Slated for Saturday
CHICOPEE, MA - Elms College will play host to the
2009 NECC Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Chicopee
Memorial State Park. The men's 8-kilometer race will begin at 11
a.m., with the women's 5-kilometer race to follow at 12:00 p.m.
In last season's inaugural championship, Daniel Webster earned team
honors on the men's side while Lesley was the top women's team.
Herrell Siller, Jr. of Newbury College was the top individual
finisher in the men's race, while Charlotte Goff of Lesley finished
first overall in the women's race.
The Mitchell College men's team, which finished as runner-up in
2008, figures to be in the hunt again for the team title. Junior
John Hoffman and senior Eric Appleby will lead the Mariners. Each
earned all-conference honors last year by virtue of a top-10
finish. Hoffman has led Mitchell in every race this season while
Appleby has three top-five finishes.
On the women's side, the Mariners will be led by juniors Brittany
Smyth and Kailee Hyde. Smyth finished ninth at last year's
championship and will look to once again earn all-conference
accolades.
Directions to the event are as follows: Exit 6 off the Mass Pike,
stay to the right after the toll. At the end of the exit, turn
right on to Burnett Road. Travel approximately half a mile on
Burnett and the entrance to the park will be on your left.
