Sreitmatter Takes First for Women in Mitchell Invitational
WATERFORD, Conn. – Freshman Jordyn Sreitmatter was the top female finisher at the Mitchell Invitational on Friday afternoon, as the Mitchell men's and women's cross country teams hosted Dean College at Stenger Farm Park.
Sreitmatter completed the three-mile race in of 24:08.5, good for a 7:46 pace, nearly four minutes faster than the first women finisher for Dean.
In the men's race, sophomore Jonathan Hecker (Falls Church, VA) raced to a second place finish with a time of 19:03.4, trailing only Dean's Colin Cleary, the race winner at 18:51.5.
After a Dean runner crossed the finish line third, the Mariners produced the fourth and fifth overall runner, as Tim O'Hayre (Hull, Mass.) had a time of 21:05.1 and freshman Stefan Mier (Providence, R.I.) was seconds behind him at 21:06.9. Mitchell's Phillip Clark was seventh (21:36.3), while freshman Hunter Martocchio, Nikolas Misiaszek, and Josh Faucher rounded out the Mitchell group with times of 26:48.1, 26:50, and 26:50 respectively.
After Sreitmatter crossed the finish line, junior Morgyn Perkins (Bristol, Conn.) became the next Mitchell women's runner to complete the race with a time of 28:37.5, good for the second overall women's finisher. Junior Kyrsten Lucas (Manchester, Md.) and Jade Hypolite (Houston, TX) came across the finish line with identical times of 33:17.1, while senior Anna Kate Kochansky rounded out the pack with a time of 45:21.
Both the Mitchell men's and women's team came in just behind Dean in the final scores.
The Mariners just right back into action on Saturday, September 28, when they compete in the Founding Tree Invitational, hosted by Hampshire College.
