Mitchell Women Drop 4-1 Decision to Lyndon State
NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Mitchell College women's soccer team was defeated by Lyndon State this afternoon, 4-1, in the team's season opener. Sophomore Nikki Hoxie (Winsted, Conn.) scored Mitchell's only goal of the day, when she took a short pass from from Paige Ehnot (West Hartford, Conn.) and found the back of the net. For Lyndon State, Abby Fadden (North Haverhill, N.H.) was a force on offense, as she netted three goals on the day.
Shauna Buck (Newport Center, N.H.) tallied the other goal for the Hornets, and teammate Michelle Wilcox (Franklin, Vt.) added an assist. The net-minding duties for Mitchell were split between Rachel Cunningham (New Hartford, Conn.) and Brittany O'Neil (Old Saybrook, Conn.), and they each made seven saves.
The Hornets outshot the Mariners by a 26-6 margin, but Mitchell racked up eight corner kicks to only one by Lyndon State.
Mitchell falls to 0-1, while Lyndon State improves to 2-0 on the season. Mitchell is back in action on Wednesday, September 9th when they travel to Anna Maria College.
