Saint Joseph Blanks Women's Soccer, 4-0
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's soccer
team dropped a 4-0 decision to visiting Saint Joseph College on
Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Patricia Nolan scored two goals and added an assist as the Blue
Jays (11-1-1 overall) extended their unbeaten streak to eight
games. Amber White and Eva Peart also found the back of the net for
Saint Joseph, which held a 17-4 edge in shots.
White's goal came off a corner kick in the 22nd minute.
Nicole Mendelson served the ball into the box where it was
redirected by Nolan to the far post, and White was waiting to bury
the shot into the right corner. The tally was her first of the
season.
The Blue Jays struck again just over four minutes later to take a
2-0 advantage. Peart sent a cross into the box from the right side
that Nolan finished into the left corner of the goal.
Mitchell nearly got on the board in the 27th minute when junior
Angie Smith drilled a shot from the right side that hit off the far
post. Saint Joseph then tacked on the third goal in the 38th minute
on a breakaway by Nolan. Her first shot was stopped by goalkeeper
Kaylee Woodford, but she finished off the rebound for her second
goal of the game and team-leading 10th of the season.
Saint Joseph led 3-0 at the half and scored its final goal in the
57th minute off the foot of Peart. She finished off a ball into an
open net after Woodford attempted to clear a cross and got tangled
up with a Blue Jays player. Peart's goal was her sixth of the
season.
Holly Mirabella wasn't tested in goal for the Blue Jays and
picked up her seventh shutout. Woodford finished with five saves
for the Mariners.
Mitchell (5-6-0 overall) returns to conference play at Newbury
College on Sunday, October 17 at 2 p.m.
