Women’s Soccer Set for the Fall Season
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's soccer team will not have to wait long to play their home opener, as the Mariners kick off their season on Sunday, August 31, with a non-conference game against Yeshiva University.
The Mariners will then jump right into Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play with a home match against Albertus Magnus on September 10. In total, Mitchell will play 16 regular season games, eight at home and eight on the road. A pair of early-season matchups against Emmanuel and Colby-Sawyer follow on September 20 and 27 respectively.
Four consecutive road contests close out September and begin October, before the Mariners return to their home turf against Saint Joseph's College (ME) on Saturday, October 11. After away games at Elms and Lasell, Mitchell closes their regular season with three home games in a row; University of Saint Joseph on October 22, Simmons on October 25, and Norwich on October 28.
Entering their third season as a member of the GNAC, Mitchell will be looking to improve upon last fall, when they finished with an overall record of 0-14-1. With Interim Head Coach Jon Cohn at the helm, the Mariners will look towards the senior leadership of Cassandra Roman (New London, Conn.) and Lauren Cordero (Selden, N.Y.), who tied for the team lead in goals last fall. Sophomore Ava Iwasko (Sterling Heights, Mich.) will look to build on a strong freshman campaign, while fellow sophomore Ronnie Keays (Salem, N.H.) is poised to take over in goal, replacing All-Conference Second Team selection Gemma Landry, who graduated after a decorated Mitchell career.
The Mitchell women's soccer team was also tabbed to finish No. 14 in the conference standings, as the GNAC recently announced their 2025 Women's Soccer Preseason Poll. The Mariners earned 19 points in the poll, which was conducted by the league's 14 women's soccer head coaches.
Emmanuel earned all 14 first-place votes from every head coach, giving them 196 points in this year's poll. Lurking in the top three spots are Rivier (172) and Lasell (163), who both are projected to finish at two and three. Regis (139) and Albertus Magnus (124) round out the top five as they look to be in the hunt for the title.
Colby-Sawyer (120), Norwich (114), University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) (111), and Elms (89) make up the 6-9 portion of the poll and look to shake up conference play.
Saint Joseph's (Maine) (71), Simmons (64), Dean (49), New England College (39), and Mitchell (19) round out the final five spots in this year's preseason poll, looking to shake up the standings in conference play this season.
The 2025 GNAC Women's Soccer season kicks off on Friday, August 29, with non-conference action across the region before league play begins on Saturday, September 6. Each team will battle through a demanding conference schedule, with only the top eight squads earning a shot
at postseason glory in the GNAC Championship Tournament. Quarterfinals are set for Saturday, November 1, followed by semifinals on Wednesday, November 5, and the GNAC Championship Final on Saturday, November 8. The winner of the postseason tournament earns the league's automatic qualifier into the 2025 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament.
