FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Mitchell College women's soccer team battled throughout Tuesday afternoon's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest but came up just short in a 2-1 setback at Dean College on Grant Field.
The Bulldogs struck first in the opening half, breaking through in the 10th minute on a goal from Amelia McQuiggan to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
Mitchell responded after halftime, pulling level in the 54th minute on sophomore Ava Iwasko's (Sterling Heights, Mich.) third goal of the season, which came off an assist from senior Taylor Bialowas (Griswold, Conn.).
Dean answered back 12 minutes later as Kacie Consolini converted on a feed from Lila Maiato for what proved to be the game-winner.
The Mariners continued to apply pressure down the stretch, generating eight second-half shots and forcing six saves from Dean goalkeeper Lexi Gerow. Bialowas paced the Mitchell attack with a game-high seven shots, including three on target.
In goal, sophomore Ronnie Keays (Salem, N.H.) turned in a standout performance, recording 24 saves while facing 41 total shots.
Mitchell finished the afternoon with 12 shots overall, including seven on goal, while Dean held the advantage in both corners (13-2) and total attempts.
The Mariners (1-5-0, 0-5-0 GNAC) return to action on Wednesday, October 1, with a non-conference match at Bay Path University.
