LONGMEADOW, Mass. – Senior forward Cassandra Roman (New London, Conn.) scored twice and assisted on another goal, helping power the Mitchell College women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Bay Path University on Wednesday afternoon.
Roman, who led all players with 19 shots (11 on goal), found the back of the net in the 47th and 71st minutes with assists from sophomore Ava Iwasko (Sterling Heights, Mich.) and senior Taylor Bialowas (Griswold, Conn.), bookending a first-half goal from freshman Tori Jones (Manchester, Conn.), who finished off a perfect feed from Roman at the 43rd minute. For Roman, the pair of goals gives her a team-high seven on the season, while the goal was the first of Jones's collegiate career.
The Mariners dominated in every phase of the game, outshooting the Wildcats 55-7, controlling possession, and converting every scoring opportunity into a decisive win. Senior Taylor Bialowas (Griswold, Conn.) contributed eight shots, five on goal, while freshman Kiara Ampuero (New London, Conn.) added three shots of her own.
Between the posts, sophomore Ronnie Keays (Salem, N.H.) turned away five shots for the clean sheet, while Bay Path goalkeeper Seralyn Lendroth made 27 saves. Mitchell also held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks and played a disciplined game, committing no fouls.
The Mariners (2-5, 0-5 GNAC) will return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play with their next game, a road contest at New England College on Friday, October 3.
